Traffic Jam, episode 6: Who made the potato salad?

It's summertime... the season for cookouts, family reunions, and get-togethers with friends.  Regardless of the type of gathering, people drink, enjoy BBQ, sample the fruits of the season, and graze on specialty side items.  One of those coveted dishes is potato salad... it has so many different ingredients that mesh together... and even though it seems like a simple dish; preparing it involves considerable skill.  So, it is inevitable that the question: "who made the potato salad?" is asked at every event.


I think that is very audacious... if you didn't make the potato salad or don't know how to make it, then you should just thank the fact that potato salad exists.  And if the potato salad isn't so good... just remember that good potato salad is out there and you will be able to have some in the future....


That being said... DJ-ing is like making potato salad... so if you are wondering, who made THIS potato salad... I DID.  There's lots of different ingredients, and it may not be perfect, but I put my foot in it.  So don't ask questions... just enjoy.

I started putting my traffic jam mixes out about a month ago and I probably should have mentioned this then, but I do all of these mixes on the fly. I grab a cup of tea, turn on my turntables, and start mixing whatever comes to mind. If I make a mistake (of which there are several) I keep it moving onto the next song. Nothing is edited or spliced together... each mix is organic and raw.

This week's mix has a little background story. Those who know me know that I was named by, and received my early dj training from, DJ GaFFle. GaFFle introduced me to DJ Hakim who, in addition to encouraging me, gave me the opportunity to be the back-up DJ at Strip.

Whenever I spin at Strip, the general manager, Phil, usually asks me for some Gorillaz, Mos Def, or Common. He also gives me the creative freedom to play anything I want... and I think he's really cool for that : )
