Mixed in Key is a dj software program and they have an annual contest to see who can create a 10-15 minute mix within their guidelines (http://contest.mixedinkey.com/).
Here's the mix I submitted... one of the criterion is that it has to be all in one genre... I call the genre of this mix "Pop" ....but that's debatable... lol

The Beauty and the Beat event will take place during the 2010 homecoming festivities of Clark Atlanta University. The event will showcase CAU alumni in the beauty, fashion and music industry. Also sponsored by Crown Royal Black.
During the Beauty and the Beat, guests will be treated to the hottest urban music, drinks, refreshments, and exposure to fabulous beauty and fashion vendors . Event principles will be onsite to offer “mini" Minx services, lash extensions, and makeup services. Admission is free, however, all services require RSVP and a fee.
"I wasn't born this way. One creates oneself. I believe whatever I dream. Whatever I dream, I want to do."
"I've always been a rebel. I never do things the way they're supposed to be done. Either I go in the opposite direction or I create a new direction for myself, regardless of what the rules are or what society says."
"If you're out there you're vulnerable. People prefer to disappear in life, to repress their personality. That's not living. It's dying. I see them all over the place, the walking dead."
- Grace Jones
Grace Jones was a controversial icon well before I was born in the late 70s. I remember the first time I witnessed her... it was in the movie Boomerang and I thought she was beyond fabulous. She was so bold, unafraid to express herself, unhindered when it came to demanding what she wanted, and unapologetic about who she was.
Since Grace entered the scene, many female artists have attempted to reach her level of outrageous originality. Madonna, Kelis, Lady Gaga and countless others have tried in their own ways to push the envelope... but compared to Ms. Jones, none are as audacious, bewildering, or strange'.
So this mix is in honor of Grace, in honor of being yourself despite what others think, and in honor of living in the moment... I hope you enjoy it : )

I have a confession.Since December of last year, I gained 20 pounds, busted a hole in the seat of a pair of jeans, and popped a button off another pair when out dancing.
So last month I decided to join the East Decatur branch of CrossFit. For those of you who don't know, CrossFit isn't a regular gym... the formula at CrossFit is this: Heavy Weights + Running + "Guidance" + Sweat in your Eyes + (Torture x 2) + Peer Pressure = Results.
The trainers are great and one in particular, Tommy, pushes me until I think I'm going to pass out, puke, or go on a cursing tirade. For some reason, he is under the impression that I can lift way more than is logically possible for me. Halfway into every workout, when I feel that I will drop a weight on my head, fall backwards, or be unable to finish, my pride kicks in, I get in the zone, and I do as Tommy tells me to do.
Eventually, I start feeling fatigued and wonder if, at THIS very moment, all my muscles have given up and I am actually DYING. Then, like magic...the workout is over, people say "good job!" and I have a full 23 hours to recover before the next session.
So while listening to this mix, go for a run when it's 100 degrees outside, do some burpee-pullup-crunch-squats, drag an enormous tire down the street while a dog chases you, then heave a slamball onto the ground and do a cartwheel before it bounces a second time... believe me... it's a lot of fun and, no, you probably won't die doing it... at least I haven't yet. ; )
Smells Like Teen Spirit... Nirvana Brass Monkey (D Minus Transition Mix)... Beastie Boys feat. Will.I.Am Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby? (Verve remix)... Dinah Washington Lookout Weekend... Debbie Deb I'm Ready... Kano When I Hear Music... Debbie Deb Easy Lover... Phil Collins & Philip Bailey The Funk Phenomena... Armand Van Helden One Thing Leads To Another... The Fixx Beat It... Salt N Pepa Rock Star in B More (DJ Riz Mashup)... Da Shop vs. DJ Riz Sweet Child O' Mine (DJ D.C.C. Mix)... Guns N'Roses Planet Rock... Afrika Bambaataa Give it All You Got... Afro Rican Somebody's Watching Me... Rockwell Glamourous Life... Shelia E
For those who don't know me personally, I am not just a dj. I am a brave, intelligent, and slightly insane middle school teacher. Last year when I taught 8th grade science, part of the curriculum required me to teach about light waves. When I taught them about the Sun and how life on Earth relies on the Sun's energy, several children brought up the fact that sometime in the very distant future, our Sun will go supernova and engulf us.
I bring this up to remind people that everything, evvvverrrrything, EV-ER-Y-THANG eventually ends. People, Events, institutions, nations, and even our precious Sun are temporary...
In the past I have worried and tried to control situations only to realize my actions were futile. I finally realized that I am happiest when I enjoy life and accept each moment for what it is. No holding back, no regrets, no waiting for some "perfect" moment in the future... Now is all there is.
So, here's a little sunshine... from me to you... enjoy ; )
Act Too (Love of My Life)... The Roots feat. Common You're Making Me High... Toni Braxton Player's Ball... OutKast Lazy Afternoon... The Roots Don't Disturb this Groove... The System It's Love... Rick James Champagne Life... NeYo
I wrote a really long explanation explaining my motivation for this mix... then I totally changed my mind about the genre and started over with different songs. Interestingly enough, the songs still seem to convey my mood... so take from it what you like...
Music always speaks for itself... no extraneous words are necessary... enjoy ; )

I currently reside in Atlanta... and this summer, it has been HOT. It hasn't been the normal, humid, hotlanta heat... it has been so oppressively humid that it's a struggle to conjure basic thoughts. The only solution is to just surrender (preferably by a pool with the beverage of your choice).
For some reason... all this heat has caused Reggae music to cycle through my mind.... So here's this week's mix... enjoy ; )

I wanted to apologize for the delay in getting the latest traffic jam out. I've had a lot going on and I haven't been able to spend some quality alone time with my turntables. So until I get it out, please feel free to visit http://djsugarcut.podomatic.com to hear my old mixes.
As always, feel free to contact me if you have any ideas or song requests for a mix : )
